Beer For Everyone

With its small 12-hL brew system, the Prairie Dog Brewing brewery team has the flexibility to create many different craft beer styles and packaged brands every year, both to give our Calgary Chinook brewpub guests new and fun draft products to enjoy, and to supply local liquor stores, bars, events and restaurants with Prairie Dog beer in several formats for wholesale purchase.

From the ultra-crushable Crispy Gurl Cold IPA to the sweet/tart You’re Beautiful and the low-carb but flavourful Gopher Lite, we have a beer for everyone, whether it be malty, sour, sweet, fruity, light, dark, or funky.

Small Brewery Team

As a true micro-brewery, Prairie Dog Brewing has a tiny brewing team, with just 2 full-time brewers and 1-2 casual, part time brewers helping us out here and there. That means our brewery team need to be skilled in all areas of brewery operations, from recipe development through brewing, cellaring, testing and packaging a finished product. That can make the job challenging, at times, but there’s also great reward in seeing a beer that you  imagined all the way through to standing in our brewpub and observing our guests while they enjoy that beer for the first time.

Likewise, we also have a small brewery sales team that works with and supports our brewers to ensure that our beer gets out into the mouths of customers all over western Canada.

Collaboration Brewing

With its small brewing system and flexible team, it’s easy for Prairie Dog Brewing to engage in collaboration brewing with local partners of all kinds. We enjoy taking part in collaborations because they are an opportunity to learn from others, to try out of the box ideas, and just to have some fun! Some notable recent examples of collaboration brewing include:

Contract Brewing

When Prairie Dog Brewing opened back in 2018, our brewery was set up solely to supply our large 58th Avenue Calgary Chinook Brewpub. In recent years we invested into expanding our brewing capacity to better support our wholesale beer sales program, but also to support contract brewing services for third-party brands, including contract canning services for products produced on site at Prairie Dog Brewing. If you’re a small producer looking to contract brew 12HL to 24HL batches and fill cans and/or kegs, contact us using the button below!

Provincial Distribution

Prairie Dog Brewing has the ability to distribute its craft beer through Alberta’s Liquor Connect/Connect Logistics Services distribution system. That means every liquor store, bar and restaurant across the province has the ability to order Prairie Dog Brewing products! If you don’t see our products in your local store, ask them to bring us in! Your request means a lot more to the store manager than what they hear from the endless line of salespeople that visit them every week.

Not only can we distribute in Alberta, but other Canadian provinces and territories are able to order beer through Alberta’s distribution system, meaning you’ll find our beer in places like Saskatchewan or the Yukon Territories, too. For a full list of locations that we know have recently ordered beer, click the button below.

An assortment of kids beverages include SunRype juice boxes and Milk2Go chocolate and white milk products, available at Prairie Dog Brewing.

Direct Sales

Bars, restaurants, event/tourism venues and liquor stores in the Calgary area have the privilege of direct sales ordering and delivery straight from our 58th Avenue Calgary Brewery. We even offer self-service online ordering, so purchasing managers can get their orders in no matter the time of day or day of week!

Local Ingredients

Prairie Dog Brewing is proud to support local and Canadian businesses that make and distribute brewing ingredients. We work with Calgary’s Canada Malting, Strathmore’s Origin Brewing and Malting, and Red Shed Malting in Red Deer County. We purchase fruit purees from Pacific Coast Fruit Products in Abbotsford, BC, yeast from Escarpment Laboratories in Ontario, and our hops come from a variety of Canadian distributors and suppliers, notably including Water Valley Hops, who supplies us with a truckload of fresh picked hops each fall for our wet-hopped seasonal beer. We use Calgary’s Raft Labs whenever we need to test our beer.
